I simply could not resist myself from writing this post. I was planning to write about something totally different, but so exciting is the news that I could not help myself.
Apple iPhone is now available in India at less than R. 10k.. Yeah you’ve read it right. Apple iPhone is now available for Rs. 9999 only! So what magic has Apple done to reduce the price? Okay let me not keep you all guessing for long. It's not Apple but it is Aircel that is offering the iPhone 3GS for Rs. 9999 with their connection. It is a love at first sight kinda offer...

These are some of the facts that you should know before you buy it
3GS is now a two generations old phone and going to be three sooner in the iPhone family... That seems to be the reason for this price cut. Or it could be stock clearance discount from Aircel
It comes with the iOS 3 pre-installed. Apple has confirmed that 3GS will be upgradable to iOS 6 when it is launched. This looks like a plus point at first, but remember it is just an OS upgrade. What about the hardware? It is still the same. In my experience an OS upgrade on an Apple product is not so nice. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I upgraded my iPad from iOS 4 to iOS 5 and it slowed down considerably. And the experience may be the same even in this case.
Some technical short comings:
- Age old processor
- Only 256 MB RAM
- No front camera so video calling is not possible
- Siri will not be available (Not so much of concern though)
- Only comes with 8GB storage option and no expandable slot
- Only black color (Girls sorry! no colour option)
- Some of the map features will not be available in iOS 6
After some more research I've found that there is one small rider in the pricing. You have to pay Rs. 3000 more as an advance towards rental for data connection and unlimited internet access for one year. So final price of iPhone 3GS will be Rs. 13000

If you are a die hard fan of Apple products and are planning to buy a new connection (which is highly impossible considering we have 921 million cell phone users in India) or are planning to replace your existing handset then this is the best offer you have in hand to have your own iPhone...
Some tips after your purchase…
- Don’t think of an OS upgrade unless it’s really necessary
- Technology obsolescence makes technology products cheaper every day. So don’t feel bad if you get the iPhone 4 or 4S at an even more attractive price in a year’s time…
- Compare this phone with other phones in the same price range, you’ll be happy. But not with newer phones from the iPhone family..

Yes... it has wifi connectivity. and also you can download all free apps. In fact there is no restriction on the app store usage.
ReplyDeleteBut do you think Iphone and Aircel is a good combination. If 3G facility of Aircel is not good the fun of iphone will be lost.
ReplyDeleteThis is unlocked phone, so you are free to change the service provider any time or even you can user your existing sim with this phone. What you will loose is Rs.3000 which you pay as advise rental to aircel.
