Convert your Smart phone into a Wireless Router

Merry Xmas to All...

Okie, so here I am, to fulfill the promise that I made two articles back. I talked about converting your smart phone into a wireless router, so that you can use your mobile internet and share it on your laptop or tablet or even on other phone. So now if you are on move, you don’t have to worry. Simply set your mobile phone in a way that it works like a wireless router and use this to connect to the internet on any of your other devices. The only requirement is that your phone has to be having the Android 2.3 or later version OS or iPhone 4 or later. Menu name and screen may differ with different versions but you should find similar options to activate this. So are you ready to set this up?

Before we get started, make sure on your mobile phone internet is working and it is not from a wireless source. In short start your GPRS / 2G / 3G connection has been activated.

Now you can convert your phone into a wireless router. To do this follow these steps:

If you have an Android phone :

Go to 'Settings → Wireless and network settings → Tethering and portable hotspot'

Tick 'Mobile AP'
Then go to 'Configure mobile AP' to configure the following settings

Network SSID − This name will appear as the wireless router name when you search for wireless network.
Security − this security protocol will be used when wireless communication is going on. Set this to WPA2 or WPA2/PSK (this depends on the option available on your handset). Don't keep this 'Open' as that will allow anyone to connect your phone as wireless router without any permission.

Once you set 'Security' you see a 'Password' box. Enter password and remember it as it will be required when you connect other device to the internet using this wireless router.
For iPhone users:

Go to 'Settings → Personal Hotspot'

Switch it 'ON'
Set 'Wi-Fi Password'. This is the same as 'Security' in Android phone.

In iPhone, the phone name itself will be taken as the router name. To change this name, go to 'Settings → General → About → Name' and you can change the name from here.

Once you have configured the above settings in your phone then you can connect any device that supports wireless networking to the internet using your phone. You can connect maximum five devices at a time.

GadgetDost Verdict:
This is an excellent feature if you have a smart phone with internet connection and tablet that support only Wi-Fi connection (one of my favourite Google Nexus 7) then you can have internet connection on your tablet using this facility on the go. Cheers and happy surfing!
