Has Android Helped Narendra Modi

When Google launched Android OS for smart devices like Mobile or Tablet around 5 years back even they would have not thought of this. Major part of social media success has come because of Android OS. It has given power to biggies like FB and many others to reach the common man. Success of startups like whatsapp can be largely attributed to Android OS. News like Narendra Modi saving 15000 Gujrathis in Uttarakhand flood reaches each and every corner of country within no time. FB, Whatsapp, Twitter and god knows what all applications spread this news in seconds to millions of peoples. I doubt whether this really happened but it definitely shows the power of mobile apps and their reach.

Now we don't wait for the newspaper in the morning to know yesterdays news, but we check whatsapp and FB for the current affairs. For that matter, newspapers are also focussing on mobile or tablet for their readership. Today I am able to connect to so many of my school time friends who are enjoying their life in small sweet remote village like Ajgaon, which is difficult to find using even the Google map but they can still use FB and be in touch. I think this is possible only because of Android OS and nothing else. Any damn news or issue can now be discussed by individuals concerned by it. This would not have been possible without the Android OS. Even things like paying your utility bills or banking transactions are now possible from your smart device. Also think of publishing your location on FB from your laptop. Not possible right? but from your mobile it extremely easy, actually you don't have to do much to declare where are you.

So what is that Android OS brings on table which was missing before? Is it something which was not existing and Google has made it or is it that they just have made it more easy and cheaper so that it can reach the common man? Even before Android OS came into existence we had mobile OS like Apple iOS or Blackberry OS. But both these companies were more interested in hardware device market and never thought of offering mobile OS as a separate product. And before the Android era,  devices offered by both of these companies were not within the reach of common man. Even today though Blackberry has come up with cheaper products, Apple products are still out of common man's reach. We had OS called Symbian, which was hardware independent but there were hardly any applications built for it.

So Google has plugged all these holes and has come up with the smart device OS called Android. And it has completely changed the scenario in mobile and smart device world. Since Android OS is available free of cost thus any smart device manufacturers are allowed to  use it and customise its look and feel for their own device. Hardware companies have also used this opportunity and have come up with phones that cost between 5K to 50K. Companies like Samsung have reached the top in mobile manufacturing using this OS. They have come up with various models that can be afforded by masses. So people who used to dream of using smart devices till yesterday now actually own them. Since the devices started reaching masses more and more companies started building innovative applications on Android OS.

The Idea that Whatsapp guys used was present even before Android came into existence. Blackberry devices offered the BBM service but it used to work only on Blackberry devices so it was limited to Blackberry users, and  Blackberry phones were very expensive at the time. Since Android is not tied up with any specific mobile manufacturer, Apps like Whatsapp have reached those people where Blackberry would have never thought of reaching. Now App developers are coming up with versions which can work on all OS like Android, Apple iOS or Blackberry OS, but they were motivated because of Android and its success. To keep pace with this development, mobile operators also contributed by providing good data connectivity almost everywhere. Without the data connectivity all these applications would be of no use.

With the help of Android, now information is available to common man on his finger tips. Information thrown at such a pace can be used for anything good or bad. But we cannot blame devices or mobile OS for it. With proper care we can secure our privacy and still enjoy the benefits of such revolution. Ultimately I am not here to do moral policing.
