Google Launches Healthcare Company: Calico

Search giant Google is venturing into the healthcare industry, and has announced the launch of a company that hopes to fight aging and associated diseases.

Called ‘Calico’, the new company aims to extend human lifespan.

“In some industries, it takes 10 or 20 years to go from an idea to something being real,” Larry Page, Google’s CEO told TIME. “Healthcare is certainly one of those areas. We should shoot for the things that are really, really important, so 10 or 20 years from now we have those things done.”

News.com.au also mentioned that Page said: “Illness and ageing affect all our families. With some longer term, moon-shot thinking around healthcare and biotechnology, I believe we can improve millions of lives.”

What do you think of Google’s plans for setting up a healthcare company?
